Letter from Fontayne Holmes, City Librarian, to SaveLAPL, 4/15/08Thank you for your support of the Los Angeles Public Library and the suggestions you posted on your Web site for generating funds for the Library. I hope you will let your readers know that many of these revenue-generating programs already exist. Here’s additional information about each: Image Bank: The Los Angeles Public Library has a collection of more than 2 million historic photographs of L.A. and Southern California. Many of these photographs are available for purchase through the Library Web site. In addition, the Library Store at Central Library has a wide range of merchandise (mugs, posters, postcards, magnets, books, etc.) featuring the Library logo and the Library’s historic photographs. Special Events: The Central Library and all 71 branch libraries have areas that are available to rent for special programs and events. A complete list of the rental facilities and fees are available at our website, lapl.org. Naming Rights: The Library, through the Library Foundation of Los Angeles, has a wide range of sponsorship opportunities, including the Adopt-A-Branch program, book collection naming and program sponsorship. Paid Research Assistance: The Los Angeles Public Library provides document delivery service for a fee. Support for the Los Angeles Public Library: One of the best ways to support the Los Angeles Public Library is to join the thousands of individuals, businesses, corporations and foundations that contribute to the Library Foundation of Los Angeles. The Foundation is a non-profit organization that exists to raise money to enhance—but not supplant—city funding for the Library. Foundation funds are used for reading enrichment programs, after-school programs, technology, collections, cultural events and exhibitions. More information about the Foundation is available at their website, www.lfla.org In response to your specific request to support the Library's book collection at this time, the Foundation has established the "LAPL Book Enhancement Fund." Contributions can be made online at www.lfla.org/enhancementfund or mailed to the: Library Foundation of Los Angeles Contributors should please note “LAPL Book Enhancement Fund” on the check to the Foundation so that the donation will directly contribute to the book collection. The e-mails and testimonials elicited by your Website are phenomenal. I have received more than 175 e-mails. I hope that you can use some of this information on your Solutions or FAQ pages. Please let me know if you need additional information. Many thanks for your support of the Los Angeles Public Library. Sincerely, Fontayne Fontayne Holmes, City Librarian |
